LIGHTING QUESTIONS
What do i need to know before purchasing lighting for my grow room(s)? What type of lighting do i need for growing? Do i need a different spectrum bulb for blooming my plants?
VENTILATION QUESTIONS
What fan size and how many fans do I need for my grow area? There are some simple formulas to find out your grow areas requirements for proper ventilation.
A typical rule for ventilation is the exchange of your grow areas fresh air every minute. CALCULATING the active grow area is multiplying the LENGTH X WIDTH X HEIGHT. After finding this volume number multiply by 1.25 (this calculates in for any inefficiency from carbon filters), this number is the minimum requirement for cubic feet per minute (CFM) that you will need for your growing area. If you are calculating for a non filter intake fan just use this formula L X W X H = CFM.
HYDROPONICS
The idea of hydroponic cultivation is the soiless growth of a plants roots in a nutrient rich solution of water and oxygen. Various mediums used to hold the plants and its roots in place are rock wool cubes, rock wool slabs or rock wool granular chunks used to fill mesh pots. Hydroton or clay pellets are also widely used as well as coco coir and glass growstones.
Types of hydroponic systems are DRAIN TO WASTE systems and RECIRCULATING systems. These vary on the needs of the grower and the expense allocated for your garden.
Hydroponics system set ups include flood and drain, ebb and flow, top feed (drip or spray), deep water culture(DWC) and nutrient film technique (NFT).
